Because of the isolation, all survived by making a life in this harsh environment by their skill and wit. Today many of those traditional ways still exist. The residents enjoy marvelous gardening and every summer "bottle." Their produce, sachas peaches, apricots, pears, plums, apples, and a wide variety of vegetables. Rug weaving, quilting, and crocheting are still enjoyed.
